One of the reasons my furniture is more costly compared to mass-produced, high design items you buy from Ikea, Crate and Barrel and the like, is that it will last a lifetime.  Time honored methods of construction, matched with thoughtful, mature design counts for something.  

The touchstone of quality and endurance is attention to detail - and the willingness to spend the time to insure that the details work.
